In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.
-- Dwight Eisenhower, 1961

A White House visitor asked Dwight Eisenhower's young grandson what his name was. "Dwight David Eisenhower", the boy replied. The President was seated nearby. "If you are Dwight David Eisenhower, said the visitor, gesturing toward the President, "then who is he?" David answered without hesitation, "That's Ike!"
