Note Cards

(Not required for turn in)

Guidelines

Use 3x5 or 4x6 inch index cards.

Write a source letter (A, B, C, etc.) at the top center of the note card. On each card, take notes from only one source.

Write about only one main idea on each card. (Remember, this is just a note, it is not an essay. Limit the length of the information. Write only the valuable idea or quote that you will need as a reminder.)

Write a heading—a key word or phrase—in the top right hand corner. The heading tells the main idea discussed on the note card.

Use your own words when taking notes, and summarize the information. (Check with your instructor to find out if he or she requires full sentences or will allow phrases and incomplete sentences.)

OR

Enclose direct quotations in quotation marks. (If you use the majority of the words from a statement, it is considered a quote and must be shown in that manner.)

Write the page number of the information in the top left corner.
