#7 Andrew Jackson
" Democratic (Jacksonian Democrats), 2 terms, Old Hickory
" Killed a man in a duel because he insulted his wife. First American president to survive an assassination attempt.
" Used the spoils system extensively, believing that ordinary citizens should play a more prominent role in government.
" As a General, he was sent into Florida in 1818, destroyed several Seminole villages, and disobeyed by seizing the Spanish settlements of St. Marks and Pensacola
" The Battle of New Orleans made him a national hero.
